On a rainy Sunday, October 19, 2025, the Department of Radiology Women in Radiology group organized a department sponsored Open House Chicago experience to explore what our amazing city has to offer in some of its less familiar corners. A small but spirited group of department members took a self-guided tour inside and outside of the Ignite Glass Studios in Ukrainian Village/West Town as well as treated to live glassblowing demonstrations, before heading to a delicious Thai lunch.
Ignite Glass Studios has transformed a spartan West Loop industrial building into a glass blowing studio, educational facility, and elegant event space. With its state-of-the-art glass-working environment and flexible spaces, Ignite fosters art-based learning for everyone from under-resourced youth to visiting glass artists. Gallery spaces show a rotating mix of work by those affiliated with the studio. Artisans on staff create a signature line of products-making it a true working studio. With its garden and rooftop deck, Ignite is a distinctive place to appreciate the art of blown glass.
New connections were made - and hopefully a few "artistes" were inspired to try their hands at glass blowing!
